1 Thessalonians 5
-
When Paul says “The day of the Lord”, he is referring to the second coming of Jesus (cf. 1 Cor. 5:5, 2 Thess. 2:2, 2 Peter 3:10). What do we learn about the day of the Lord in verses 2-3?
-
From verses 4-11 how does Paul say we should be prepared for the day of the Lord? What impacts you the most?
-
In verses 12-22 there are a lot of commands from Paul to the Thessalonians, list all of them. Which commands stuck out to you? Which of these commands do you want/need to focus on doing?
-
Focusing on verses 20-21, we know that the gift of prophesies has ceased. Paul wanted the Thessalonians to know, at the time this gift had not ceased yet, that they should test everything and hold fast to what is good. He wanted them to be encouraged by prophecies which God was using through people to encourage his people rather than to ignore them. We do not have prophecies today but what do we have that we can hold fast to?

What did you find most encouraging from this chapter? What could you use in your life to encourage other believers?
